The House of Honey are proud to announce our recent accreditation in Sustainable Tourism, awarded by the TCWA (Tourism Council, Western Australia).
This accreditation programme helps guide businesses to create high-quality, engaging, and memorable tourism experiences, whilst also ensuring a robust commitment to sustainable tourism practises.
A lifetime sustainability commitment
Our journey to becoming accredited reflects a sustainable mindset that is ingrained within our business values. Using traditional and sustainable farming, endorsing good bee husbandry, and following the national code for bio-security practises has formed the backbone of our business since our beginnings in 2010. It has been our mission to use our Swan Valley shop, beekeeping workshops and presence in various committees and councils to spread our knowledge in sustainable beekeeping. Becoming advocates for sustainable tourism is the next step in our sustainability mission.
Joining the movement in WA
But we aren’t alone in our accreditation, and indeed mission for sustainability. We’re joining some 1,200 businesses within Western Australia striving to lead the way as a sustainable tourism destination.
We have always committed to being environmentally friendly – recycling our rainwater to use during the honey production process, recycling and reusing all cardboard materials, and installing solar panels to fulfil 100% of our business’s energy needs. But we are always thinking ahead, and have some exciting projects in pipeline to further decrease our carbon emissions in the future, such as introducing Hive Scales to minimize our truck travel and fuel output.
What is Sustainable Tourism?
Sustainable tourism – defined as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social, and environmental impacts” – is a rising concern that is having a huge influence on the tourism industry across the globe. In fact, more than 80% of global travelers noted that sustainable tourism was important to their travel decisions, and they are motivated by sustainable travel incentives. We’re making sure that we’re ahead of the curve by embracing the changes needed for a more sustainable tourism industry and meeting our travelers and tourists’ sustainability expectations too.
