Owners Kim and Rupert become WA's first Honey Sommeliers

2 minutes

The House of Honey owners have become Australia’s newest accredited Honey Sommeliers - and first in WA.
Returning from Italy and a weeklong study adventure with Bee Sources world-acclaimed ‘Honey Sensory Analysis’ class, Rupert and Kim Phillips, (Managing Director and Head Beekeeper), proudly hold their very own Honey Sommelier accreditation.

A step forward for Western Australia

This is exciting news for not only The House of Honey, but West Australia’s whole honey community and industry, as Rupert and Kim become the first two honey sommeliers of the state.

Always one step ahead in the honey game, Kim and Rupert took the plunge to take the accreditation in order to help bring a new dimension to WA’s honey industry. For several years, bringing new knowledge and educational workshops to their local community’s beekeepers has been an investment of the business, which they’re ready to take one step further with a revolutionary new ‘Honey Sensory Masterclass’.

A sweet new Swan Valley event

Officially launching during the Swan Valley’s Harvest calendar, and again for the apprentice chefs of Crown Hotel, Kim and Rupert led their guests through the journey of honey tasting.

Using the olfactory system, they guide attendees through the differences in tastes, textures, smells and colours that Western Australia’s honey varietals boast.

“We are constantly trying to improve our offerings at The House of Honey, and as honey-lovers, and passionate beekeepers, this was our next logical step. We’re hoping that this helps elevate our local Western Australia honey industry and get people invested in buying local. We have some of the best honey varietals right here in our state, and it is about time they are appreciated with the same respect our region’s wines are.” Kim Phillips, Managing Director.

Across the whole of Australia, Kim and Rupert now make up two of the three only honey sommeliers operating in the country. We're so proud of them - quite the Bees Knees!

Here at the House of Honey, we truly are a tribute to all things honey and bee related, built upon a foundation of 50 years of beekeeping passion and experience. We're open throughout the year, with a buzzing on site café, Meadery, shop and thriving event calendar.
