Bees and Beekeeping

Our bees - and beekeepers - are the heroes of the house.

Combining 50 years of passion, 500 hives and 50 million bees, The House of Honey brings you not only the purest WA honey varietals, but a whole education and bee experience too.

Our Values

Keeping Sustainable Beekeeping
Alive and Local

Artisanal Honey

So much more than a simple shop. The House of Honey is a tribute to all things bees and honey. We care for our bees and lovingly craft delicious, pure honey varieties, as well as beeswax candles, gifts, beauty products, tourist experiences and more, right here in the Swan Valley.

Sustainable Beekeeping

Blending traditional beekeeping techniques as well as new age methods, everything we do is measured, managed, and sustainable. The House of Honey is about helping bee populations and hives thrive. Whilst we treasure our pure, WA honey, we will never over harvest. We're strictly a bee-first business.

Social Causes

We're on a mission to spread the word about sustainable and responsible beekeeping. That's why we developed a buzzing calendar of beekeeper-led events, to share our expertise so that our bee populations stay protected. Giving back is what we're about: to our environment, the bees, local communities, and our charities (see our Teddy Bear Honey).

What Do Bees Produce?

They’re clever little things, our bees. They produce honey – a sweet treat with countless medicinal properties, and also beeswax, propolis and royal jelly. Oh, and they’re huge pollinators too, helping pollinate over 65% of Australia’s food chain. It would be devastating if bees became extinct — no bees, no cross-pollination, no plants. That's why we're wholly invested in keeping our bee populations stable - and you can help, too. Shop beekeeper-direct for your favourite bee products and be safe in the knowledge that you're helping your local bees thrive.

What does a beekeeper do?

The Life Of A Beekeeper

Beekeeping is no easy task: our beekeepers have a unique relationship with the bees, built on respect. By carefully tending to every hive, we’ve developed an intimate understanding of each colony. We know no two hives are the same and tailor how we treat and manage each one to ensure it flourishes through the utmost care. The health, and wellbeing of a hive’s delicate ecosystem is paramount, and we’re passionate about every step.

As migrational beekeepers, we move our hives with the season, so that our honey harvest has the freshest produce on offer. With locations across the entire state of Western Australia, our beekeepers are often out in the field, moving hives overnight, checking in on the colonies and ensuring they’re a well-watered and happy brood. A beekeeper’s work never stops, but it is so much more than just a ‘job’ when you’re as passionate as we are: it’s a lifestyle, and love affair.

In the Field

100% Western Australian, our honey is the cream of the crop. We know this because our richly biodiverse landscape, pristine flora, and remoteness from the rest of the world means that our honeys are disease free, abundant in ‘TA +’ activity – and utterly pure too. We have over 500 hives placed around the state, and whilst our beekeepers head out to check on our apiaries around the WA bush from time to time – our bees are the real heroes. Collecting nectar and pollen from their surrounding flora, they not only produce delicious WA honey, but they pollinate our surrounding environment too.

The Production Products

We’re proud to hand pour, hand bottle and hand label every single jar of honey in our shop. Our production shed is a fundamental cog in our family-run operation, but we make sure that the time and care is invested in our production process, making sure each jar is delivered with precision – and a taste that never misses the mark.

Every variety is unique, with it’s own exclusive flavour, and we treat it with the respect it deserves by hand finishing the process on site. You will find our jars beautifully arranged on the shop floor, ready for you to take home and enjoy.

Discover our QR Codes

You can trace all our honeys, and every step of its journey from 'bush to bowl'. We value transparency, and we know how important it is for you to know exactly where your honey is coming from. That’s why we’ve printed QR codes on our jars, so you can trace every honey back to their original batch, their harvest location, their harvest date and even the exact laboratory readings of its TA + properties.
